Amendments of the Consitution

1st Amendement

Protects a citizen’s rights to religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition.

2nd Amendement

Provides the right to bare arms.

3rd Amendement

Prevent citizens from quartering soldiers, unless during a time of war.

4th Amendement

Unlawful searches are seizures are permitted unless provided with a warrant or probable cause.

5th Amendement

Rights:

1 > Right to a jury trial

2 > Protects citizens against double jeopardy

3 > Citizens have a right to not answer self incriminating questions

4 > Right to a fair trial

5 > Protection against the government from taking property without proper compensation

6th Amendement

Rights:

1 > RIght to a speedy and public trial

2 > Right to an impartial jury

3 > Right to cross examine witnesses

4 > Right to be informed of your arrest/charges and rights

5 > Right to be represented by a lawyer in trial

7th Amendement

Right to a jury in civil cases

8th Amendement

Bail may be set in place so long as it is set at a reasonable price;

9th Amendement

All the rights not listed in the constitution are implied

10th Amendement

Any rights not given to the federal government is given to teh states

11th Amendement

Citizens of one state cannot prosecute other states or foreign countires.

12th Amendement

Seperated ballots for president and vice president

13th Amendement

Abolishes slavery and involuntary servitude

14th Amendement

Grants citizenship to people born in the United States or people who have been naturalized. Prevents the discrimination against groups of people

15th Amendement

Granted African American men the right to vote

16th Amendement

Congress has the power to set and collect income taxes

17th Amendement

Senate officials must be voted for by the people

18th Amendement

Prohibition of alcohol

19th Amendement

Granted women the right to vote

20th Amendement

Moved the dates for presidency terms

21st Amendement

Repealed 18th amendment

22nd Amendement

Limits the terms presidents can serve to 2 terms

23rd Amendement

Washington DC is able to vote for president and is given 3 electors

24th Amendement

Poll taxes are eradicated

25th Amendement

Line of succession in case something happens to the president: President > Vice President > Speaker of the House > President Pro Tempore of Senate > Secretary of State

26th Amendement

Minimum age to vote is now 18

27th Amendement

Congress cannot get a pay raise until the next session/term
