Socialization
The lifelong process by which individuals internalize the culture of their society, learn acceptable behaviors, and develop a sense of self.
Primary Socialization
The process of socialization that occurs in early childhood within the family context.
Secondary Socialization
The process of socialization that takes place later in life through schools, peers, workplace, and media.
Anticipatory Socialization
Preparing for future roles by practicing behaviors associated with those roles.
Resocialization
The adoption of new norms and values after a significant life change.
Social Reproduction
The transmission of values, norms, and inequalities through generations.
Identity
A sense of who we are, shaped by experiences, including race, gender, class, and religion.
Agency
The ability to make choices within social structures.
Looking Glass Self
Cooley's concept that describes how we develop our self-identity based on how we believe others perceive us.
Generalized Other
The internalized sense of the overall society's expectations that guides an individual's behavior.
Agents of Socialization
The individuals, groups, or institutions that influence personal attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors.

The implicit lessons taught in schools that promote conformity and obedience.
