accuracy
refers to the closeness of a measurement to the accepted value. Uses absolute error and percentage error.
Absolute error
|experimental value - theoretical value|
Percentage error
(absolute error/theoretical value)*100
theoretical yield
maximum amount of product that can be produced from a given amount of reactant
actual yield
measured amount of product obtained from a reaction
percentage yield
ratio of the actual yield to the theoretical yield
how does percentage yield compare with percentage error?
% yield is how much stuff you get from the reaction. Higher is good because it means your reactants are used more efficiently. % error is how accurate your measurements are. Lower is better.
% yield + % error = 100%
