accuracy

refers to the closeness of a measurement to the accepted value. Uses absolute error and percentage error.

2
New cards

Absolute error

|experimental value - theoretical value|

3
New cards

Percentage error

(absolute error/theoretical value)*100

4
New cards

theoretical yield

maximum amount of product that can be produced from a given amount of reactant

5
New cards

actual yield

measured amount of product obtained from a reaction

6
New cards

percentage yield

ratio of the actual yield to the theoretical yield

7

how does percentage yield compare with percentage error?

  • % yield is how much stuff you get from the reaction. Higher is good because it means your reactants are used more efficiently. % error is how accurate your measurements are. Lower is better.

  • % yield + % error = 100%
