There are six dif. classifications of THE SYNOVIAL JOINTS which have MOVEMENT specifically —- meaning that we are focusing under the Diarthrosis classification of articulations / joints
Diarthrosis articulations is synonymous with Synovial Joints
The six different classifications of the SYNOVIAL JOINT MOVEMENTS 😀
Plane (gliding)
Hinge
Condylar (ellipsoid
Saddle
Pivot
Ball-and-socket
Plane J (gliding movement)
is when two FLATTENED or SLIGHTLY CURVED SURFACES Move against each other
Plane J limits movement / motion
;
When it comes to the FEET Specifically it ALLOWS for INVERSION AND EVERSION Movement
ex:
- CARPAL BONE - wrist
- TARSALS - foot
- CLAVICLE - collarbone
- ACROMION - part of your scapular
Hinge Joint - allows for Flexion and Extension Movement
more of an ANGULAR MOVEMENT
generally is between a Convex and Concave Shape!
Allows for Flexion and Extension
EX: TROCHLEAR of the Humorous upper arm bone and it articulates with the TRACHLEAR Notch of the Ulna forearm bone
when these ARTICULATE with eo then it ALLOWS for FLEXION OF THE ARM
Condylar Joint
Between a Shallow Depression and a Rounded Structure
allows for a COMBINATION of things
FLEXION, EXTENSION, ABDUCTION, ADDUCTION movement, and EVEN CIRCUMDUCTION Movement
ex: joints of toes, knuckles, joints of fingers,
ex: more specific - distal end of the radius ARTICULTES with certain Carpal bones like the scaphoid, lunate, and triquetrum. - which are ALL CARPAL Bones
Saddle Joint
(which are joints that fit together like a saddle)
Saddle joint allows for the FLEXION/EXTENSION, Abduction/adduction and circumduction Movement
ex:
sterno clavicular joint - sternum with ribs off of it
trapezium - carpal bone and 1st meta carpal bone in hand
Pivot Joint
means the TURNING or ROTATIONAL MOVEMENT
ex: C1 and C2 Vertebrae C1 - Atlas C2 - Axes (lab) component
Ball - and Socket JOint
Has a Round head that SITS in a CUP-SHAPED DEPRESSION
ex: Hip and Shoulder Joint
hip - head of femur that articulates with the
Head of Humerus which articulates with the region called glenoid cavity/fossa - fossa = depression
part of scapular / shoulder blade
