1) trust vs mistrust
1st year of life. infants learn if they can trust their caregivers to provide for their needs.
2) autonomy vs shame and doubt
2nd year of life. toddler’s learn if they can do things by themselves and develop a sense of self control.
3) initiative vs guilt
3-6 year of life. children begin to initiate activities and ask questions.
4) industry vs inferiority
6-12 year of life. children compare themselves to others and figure out if they are “good enough” compared to their peers.
5) identity vs role confusion
12-18 year of life. Teens explore different identities to figure out who they really are.
6) intimacy vs isolation
18-40 year of life. Young adults learn to either form close relationships or isolate from others.
7) generativity vs stagnation
40-65 year of life. Adults seek ways to contribute to society or their families.
8) integrity vs despair
65 years and older. Elderly people reflect on their lives and feel either fulfillment or regret.
