Maxilla
The upper teeth are housed within the alveolar processes of these paired bones:
Sphenoid
The greater wings of this bone insert laterally or into the sides of the skull at the temple
Mandible
The condyloid process of this bone inserts into the base of the temporal bone to form the only diarthrodial or moveable joint in the skull
Vomer
This bone is a portion of the nasal septum which sits in the nasal crest of the maxilla; it forms the bony part of the midline nasal wall behind the septal cartilage:
Palatine bones
These paired bones form the most posterior part of the hard palate and are located between the maxilla and the pterygoid process of the sphenoid bone
Parietal bones
These paired bones join at the sagittal suture, forming the superior cranium:
Temporal bones
Structures for hearing and the vestibular system are housed within these paired bones
Occipital bone
The pharyngeal tubercle — the point of attachment for the midline raphe of the upper pharynx — is part of this bone
Zygomatic bones
The frontal, temporal, and maxillary processes of these paired bones form the prominent bony portions of the sides of the face; these bones are otherwise known as the cheekbones
Maxilla
These paired bones join at the intermaxillary suture and involve important landmarks relevant to cleft palate
Occipital bone
major landmark of this bone is the foramen magnum
Sphenoid
The pterygoid processes and hamulus are inferior, or downward, projections of this bone
Frontal bone
This bone is anterior to, or in front of, the coronal suture:
Ethmoid bone
The perpendicular plate of this bone vertically divides the nasal passages and helps form the nasal septum
Temporal bones
The styloid process is a projection of these paired bones
Mandible
significant landmark of this bone, otherwise known as the lower jaw, is the ramus
Nasal bones
These paired bones form the bridge of our nose
Lacrimal bones
These paired bones are the smallest of the facial skeleton and form the medial wall of the orbits:
Sphenoid
This bone is uniquely wing-shaped
