Central Vision/Visual Acuity
To discern detail, identify, and recognize what the driver is seeing.
Peripheral Vision
To detect information like road signs, appearances of hazards, and changes in the flow of traffic.
Fringe Vision
To judge depth and position.
Night Vision
To see well under low illumination.
Glare Resistance and Glare Recovery
See critical objects and events while facing a steady source of glare like the sun or blinding headlights.
Judgment of Distance
To discern distance and reference points.
Path of Travel
A series of continuous positions your vehicle will use when traveling on the roadway to your target destination.
Line of Sight
The path you see outside the windows of your vehicle on your way to your target destination.
Target Area
The areas between the target and your vehicle.
Blind Spots
An area around the vehicle that cannot be directly observed by the driver.
Reference Points
Fixed visual markings that you use while in the driver's seat to determine your distance from other objects when maneuvering your vehicle.
Front Limitation
Where the front end of your vehicle ends; used for stopping at an intersection or parking in a front facing parking spot.
Rear Limitation
Where the rear end of your vehicle ends; used for backing and parking in a rear facing parking spot.
Right Side Limitation
Pertaining to the right side of the vehicle; used for parallel parking or parking along a line or curb on the right.
Left Side Limitation
Pertaining to the left side of the vehicle; used to parallel park or park along a line or curb on the left.
Lane Position One
The vehicle is centered in the lane with approximately three feet on either side.
Lane Position Two
The vehicle is three to six inches away from the left traffic lane line.
Lane Position Three
The vehicle is three to six inches away from the right traffic lane line.
