Physical abuse:

The use of physical force that results in the threat of or the infliction of bodily injury, physical pain, or impairment. It includes but is not limited to acts of violence such as striking (with or without an object), pushing, shaking, pinching, and burning. It includes the use of physical restraints, force-feeding, and physical punishment.

S*xual abuse:

Nonconsensual s*xual contact of any kind, including with those persons unable to give consent. It includes unwanted touching of any kind and sexual assault or battery—such as r*pe, s*d*my, coerced n*dity, and forced s*xually explicit photographing. May be the result of undue influence.

Psychological abuse

The infliction of anguish, pain, or distress through verbal or nonverbal acts, including intimidation or enforced social isolation. This includes verbal assaults, insults, threats, intimidation, humiliation, belittling, and harassment. It can include forced social isolation from family, friends, or usual activities. It also includes withholding full rights to persons due specifically to their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation (discrimination).

Medical abuse

Subjecting a person to unwanted medical treatments or procedures. Examples of this include venipuncture or the insertion of a urinary catheter (also s*xual abuse) in those with dementia who refuse the procedure. It includes the use of chemical restraints (e.g., sedatives) for convenience of care rather than for protection of the person (medical neglect: failure to provide needed medical care)

Exploitation

The illegal or improper use of another’s funds, property, or assets. May be the result of undue influence, such as convincing the person to sign checks or other documents, including deeds to property or wills, with the threat of withholding care or affection.

Neglecting care or affection.

Passive or active failure of a recognized caregiver to provide goods and services, such as food, medication, medical treatment, or personal care.

Abandonment

The desertion of a person by an individual who had assumed the responsibility of providing care or assistance.
