*Sinus rhythm has a rate range of
60-100 bpm
*Sinus bradycardia has a rate of
less than 60 bpm
*SInus tachycardia has a rate of
more than 100 bpm
*QRS close together means
faster rate
*QRS far apart means
slower rate
*automaticity foci
extra or abnormal focus that can trigger a premature beat
*atrial
60-80 bpm, p wave, narrow QRS
*junctional
40-60 bpm, mat have p wave, narrow QRS
*ventricular
20-40 bpm, no p wave, wide QRS
*for each ladder ring you go down the heart
the rate slows by 20 bpm
*3 questions to ask when you look at EKG
What is my rate? Presence or absence of P wave? Is the QRS wide or narrow?
*If SA node fails what takes over
atrial focus than junctional, than so on of each fail
*first step in finding rate is
the R waves
*big block method
find R waves closest to the beginning of big block and count the big blocks to the next R wave, divide by 300
*triples method
find R waves count 300-150-100-75-60-50
*Q waves are typically how many blocks
2-3 small blocks
*6 second method
tick marks at the top 3 sec each. or count 30 big blocks. Count full cardiac cycles. Multiply by 10.
