Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorders, Dissociative Disorders, Personality Disorders, Somatic Symptom and Related Disorders, Feeding and Eating, Substance and Addictive Disorders

Neurotic Disorders

Psychological disorders that can cause distress and affect functioning, but do not involve delusions.

Psychotic Disorders

Psychological disorders that involve irrational ideas, distorted perceptions, and loss of reality.

Somatic Symptom Disorder

A psychological disorder involving a physical symptom (somatic) without a physical cause for the symptom.

Conversion Disorder

A psychological disorder where one experiences a specific, physical symptom that is not recognized by a medical condition.

Illness Anxiety Disorder

A psychological condition where one excessively worries about developing a serious illness.

Dissociative Disorder

A psychological disorder where the conscious awareness becomes separated from previous thoughts and feelings.

Dissociative Identity Disorder

A psychological disorder where a person has two or more distinct, alternating personalities.

Dissociative Amnesia

A psychological disorder where one does not remember who he/she is.

Dissociative Fugue

A symptom that can be attached to dissociative amnesia where an individual leaves home and is confused about their identity.

Schizophrenia

A psychological disorder that involves delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, and/or inappropriate emotions.

Delusions

False beliefs often found with psychotic disorders such as persecution.

Catatonia

A psychological state where one sits without movement almost as if in a trance.

Personality Disorders

Behavior patterns that harm an individual's ability to function in a social setting.

Antisocial Personality Disorder

A personality disorder where one's behavior lacks conscience for wrongdoing.

Borderline Personality Disorder

A personality disorder where one is impulsive and one struggles to maintain relationships.

Histrionic Personality Disorder

A personality disorder where one excessively seeks attention.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder

A personality disorder where one excessively needs to be admired.

Word Salad

Disorganized and nearly incomprehensible speech consisting of words with no logical connections.

Dopamine Hypothesis

Theory that schizophrenia is caused by excess dopamine.

Disorganized Speech

Incoherent speech.

Disorganized Motor Behaviors

Inconsistent or self-contradictory behavior.

Hallucinations

A sensory perception that seems real to a person, but there are no actual stimuli.

Prenatal Virus

A virus a mother has during pregnancy that can affect the unborn child with abnormalities or health issues.

Eccentric

Unusual or odd behavior that goes against social norms.

Schizoid

Characteristics similar to schizophrenia but milder.

Paranoid

Extreme distrust or suspiciousness.

Pervasive Development Disorder

Disorder with main characteristics of impairment of social interaction issues with verbal and non-verbal communication.

Inflexible

Rigid and unchanging patterns of thinking.

Schizotypal Personality Disorder

Disorder characterized by oddities of thought, perception, speech and behavior.

Erratic

Unpredictable, inconsistent, and often impulsive behavior.
