Why do humans wear clothes?
To cover our bodies, protect us from elements, provide comfort, allow for expression, and meet societal standards of identification and status.
Culture in clothing
Collected ideas, skills, beliefs, and institutions of a society at a particular time in history that influence clothing styles.
Heritage
The cultural background and ethnic traditions handed down from ancestors, influencing clothing style.
Natural fibers
Fibers that come from plants and animals, such as wool and silk, which are breathable and biodegradable.
Synthetic fibers
Man-made fibers created with chemicals, such as polyester and nylon, which are durable and quick drying.
Woven fabric
Fabric created by interlacing threads at right angles, consisting of warp (lengthwise) and weft (crosswise) yarns.
Knit fabrics
Fabrics created by interlocking loops of yarn.
First impressions in clothing
People are often judged within the first 5 seconds based on their appearance and clothing.
Acceptable business casual
Collared shirts, khakis or slacks, skirts or dresses, blazers, and jackets that are appropriate for professional settings.
Unacceptable business casual
Denim jeans, t-shirts, shorts, sweatpants, dirty clothes, and overly casual styles that are inappropriate for work.
