Name the layers of the stomach histology
The stomach is composed of four histological layers:
1st layer: Mucosa: Functions to physically protect against abrasion/secretion and/or absorption, respond to changes in the lumen.
2nd layer: Submucosa: Functions to support the mucosa layer with blood, nutrients, etc.
3rd layer: Muscularis externa: Functions to perform peristalsis.
4th layer: Serosa: Functions to provide lubrication/prevent overextension
Name the histology parts of the salivary gland.
Mucous Acini: Secretes mucin (lubricant)
Serous Acini: Secretes proteins that transport saliva to the oral cavity.
Ducts: Transports saliva and connects acini.
