What is the genome?
The genome of an organism is it’s entire hereditary information encoded in DNA
What are genes?
Genes are DNA sequences that code for proteins
What are genomes made up of?
Genomes are made up of genes and other sequences of DNA that do not code for proteins
What are the “other sequences” in the genome?
These “other sequences” are called non-coding sequences
What is most of the eukaryotic genome made up of?
Most of the eukaryotic genome is non-coding sequences
What do non-coding sequences do?
Non-coding sequences regulate transcription and produce transcribed but not translated RNAs (rRNA and tRNA).
