Metric System
The scientific system of measurement used universally by scientists, also known as the International System of Units (SI).
Length
The measurement of distance or dimension; basic unit is the meter.
Mass
The amount of matter in an object; basic unit is the gram.
Weight
The measure of gravitational pull on an object; basic unit is the newton.
Volume
The amount of space an object takes up; basic unit is the liter for liquids and cubic centimeter (cc) for solids.
Density
How compact or tightly packed something is; it is calculated using the formula D=M/V (Density = Mass/Volume).
Temperature
The measure of heat or cold; basic unit is the degree Celsius.
Triple Beam Balance
An instrument used to measure mass.
Spring Scale
An instrument used to measure weight.
Graduated Cylinder
An instrument used to measure liquid volume.
1 gram/1 milliliter
The density of water.
Objects with density less than water
Will float.
Objects with density greater than water
Will sink.
1/6 of Earth's gravity
The gravitational pull that an object would experience on the moon.
Cubic Centimeter (cc)
A metric unit for measuring the volume of solids, equivalent to 1 milliliter.
