Compensatory Time Off for Travel
A form of compensatory time earned by an employee for time spent in a travel status away from the employee's official duty station when such time is not otherwise compensable.

The date on which the interim regulations for compensatory time off for travel became effective.
Travel Status
Includes time spent traveling between the official and temporary duty stations or between two temporary duty stations, including the usual waiting time preceding or interrupting such travel.
Usual waiting time (Domestic)
The creditable waiting time prior to the scheduled departure of an airplane for domestic travel, which is set at 2 hours per agency guidelines.
Usual waiting time (International)
The creditable waiting time prior to the scheduled departure of an airplane for international travel, which is set at 3 hours per agency guidelines.
Extended waiting period
An unusually long wait during which an employee is free to rest, sleep, or use time for their own purposes; this is at the exclusive discretion of the employing agency and is not considered time in a travel status.
Bona fide meal periods
Periods not considered time in a travel status, defined as a minimum of 21 hour for each 8 hours in a travel status.
Commuting Time Offset
The deduction of an employee's normal home-to-work or work-to-home commuting time from creditable travel time when travel is between a home and a transportation terminal outside the official duty station.
Compensable
Periods of time that are creditable as hours of work for determining specific pay entitlements, such as basic pay or premium pay.
Availability Pay Cap
An example of a compensation limit mentioned in the notes is the 25×10−2 (25\text{\textpercent}) cap on availability pay.
Crediting Increment
Compensatory time off for travel is credited and used in 15 minute increments.
Documentation Submission Deadline
The requirement for employees to submit an itinerary, TDY orders, local travel voucher, and/or worksheet within 5 working days of return from travel.
Record Retention Period
Approved documents and forms related to travel compensatory time must be maintained for 6 years.

Forfeiture Period
Compensatory time off for travel is forfeited if it is not used within 26 pay periods after it is credited.
Forfeiture Conditions
Events that trigger the loss of travel compensatory time, including voluntary transfer to another agency, movement to a non-covered position (e.g., SES or WG), or separation from the Federal Government.
Military Leave/LWOP Exception
If an employee enters Military Leave or LWOP during the 26 pay periods, the waiting time for forfeiture starts over upon their return.
Unused Time Payment Rule
Under no circumstances may an employee receive payment for unused compensatory time off for travel.
