Fibrocartilaginous rim attached to the margin of the acetabulum, deepening the socket and increasing the stability of the hip joint.
Acetabular Labrum
Artery that supplies blood to the head of the femur.
Femoral Artery
Artery that branches off the femoral artery to supply blood to the deep tissues of the thigh and hip.
Deep Femoral Artery
Branch of the deep femoral artery providing blood supply to the femoral head and neck.
Medial Circumflex Femoral Artery
Small artery within the ligamentum teres that contributes to the blood supply of the femoral head.
Ligamentum Teres Artery
Tear in the fibrocartilaginous labrum of the hip joint.
Labral Tear
Stress Fracture of the Neck of Femur
Small cracks in the femur's neck, due to repetitive stress.
Death of bone tissue due to lack of blood supply, affecting the femoral head.
Avascular Necrosis
Damage to the cartilage within the hip joint.
Chondropathy
Inflammation or overuse injury at bony prominences where tendons attach in adolescents.
Traction Apophysitis
Condition where cartilage nodules develop in the synovial membrane of the hip joint.
Synovial Chondromatosis
Progressive degeneration of joint cartilage.
Osteoarthritis
Displacement of the femoral head from the femoral neck through the growth plate.
Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis
Inflammation of the synovial membrane of the hip joint.
Synovitis
Childhood hip disorder that results in temporary loss of blood supply to the femoral head.
Perthes' Disease
Tear in the ligament within the hip joint connecting the femoral head to the acetabulum.
Ligament Teres Tear
Abnormal contact between the femur and acetabulum leading to hip pain and limited range of motion.
Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI)
Excessive ROM, poor balance, proprioception and coordination of the hip.
Hip Instability or Hypermobility
Painful inflammation of a bony outgrowth in the area of active bone growth and muscle attachment.
Apophysitis
Avulsion Fracture
Forcible tearing/fracture of bone while maintaining contact with the muscle.
