Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL)
A technique adapted from kidney stone treatment to break up calcified plaque inside arteries before placing a stent.
Calcified Plaque
Calcium deposits in arteries that make them rigid and hard, complicating stent deployment.
Balloon Catheter
A device inserted into narrowed segments of arteries; it can be inflated to push plaque against the vessel wall.
Shockwaves
Acoustic waves emitted by a catheter balloon, used to fracture calcium deposits in arteries.
Guidewire
A long flexible wire advanced inside the artery that creates a path for subsequent devices.
Sheath
A short tube inserted over a guidewire that allows safe passage of wires, catheters, balloons, and stents.
Self-Expanding Stent
A type of stent that expands automatically when released, requiring no balloon for deployment.
Post-Dilation
The process of using another balloon after stent placement to ensure proper expansion and stent position.
Guide Catheter
A large, stable tube positioned at the entrance of a vessel to allow other equipment to pass through easily.
Angiogram
An imaging technique to visualize blood vessels and check for blockages using contrast injection.
Balloon-Expandable Stent
A stent that is crimped around a deflated balloon and requires inflation of the balloon to deploy.
Sheath System
The delivery system that allows stents to be advanced through the artery, providing a pathway for deployment.
Interventional Procedures
Medical procedures that involve the use of instruments to diagnose or treat conditions within blood vessels.
