  • political instability- kaiser abdicated, lots of different parties, growing communism, bad reputation

  • economic devastation- rationing and food shortages,mass poverty, pensions for widows and orphans, industrial product 2/3 of before and national income 1/3 of before, have to pay back money to america

  • social chaos - 2.5 mill killed, 600000 widows, 2 mill orphans, nation divided, lack of basic necessities
