What are the two factors that underpin the outcome of a chemical reaction
Thermodynamics and Kinetics
How doe thermodynamics and kinetics dictate the outcome of most chemical reactions
Thermodynamics - often describe as how far a reaction will proceed. Refers to what the ratio of products to starting materials is, This is controlled by the difference in energy between starting material and products.
Kinetics - often described as how fast does a reaction will proceed. This is governed by the activation energy.
What’s the Brønsted-Lowry definition for an acid and a base
Brønsted-Lowry definition, An acid is a substance that is a proton (H+) donor.
A base is a substance that accepts a proton (H+).
What’s the Lewis definition for an acid, base and an adduct
An acid that is a substance which is an electron pair acceptor.
A base is a substance which donates an electron pair.
The resulting compound is sometimes called an adduct.
