How do you make oxygen gas?

Mix together hydrogen peroxide and yeast to produce oxygen gas

2
New cards

How do you make hydrogen gas?

Mix granulated zinc (as granulated zinc has more surface area and will react quicker) with hydrochloric acid to produce hydrogen gas

3
New cards

How do you make carbon dioxide gas?

You can combine baking soda and vinegar to produce carbon dioxide (carbon dioxide does not have a colour)

4
New cards

What effect does temperature have on rate of reaction?

The higher the temperature is, the quicker the rate of reaction is

5
New cards

What is meant by the 'rate of a reactant'?

It's a measure of how quickly a reactant/s is/are used up to make a product (i.e., does the reaction to make the 'finished product' happen fast or slowly?)

6
New cards

How does surface area affect the rate of reaction?

The more surface area there is, the greater the rate of reaction is (e.g., a stone broken into smaller parts will dissolve faster than the stone as a whole)

7
New cards

How does concentration affect the rate of reaction?

The higher the concentration, the faster the rate of reaction is due to there being more molecules to collide and react with each other

8
New cards

How does a catalyst affect the rate of reaction?

A catalyst speeds up the rate of a reaction exponentially by lowering the amount of energy needed to make the atoms break apart and react in the first place (think of it as like lowering - e.g., - the boiling point of water so water boils faster)

What is the name of the experiment given to the image shown?

What is the name of the experiment given to the image shown?

Titration

10
New cards

What is the Neutralisation equation?

HCl + NaHO --> NaCl + H_2O [Acid (Hydrochlordie) + Base (Sodium Chloride) --> Salt + water

11
New cards

How do you test for oxygen gas?

Place a glowing/not very alight match near the tube with the gas. If the match suddenly bursts back into flames, then the gas is oxygen

12
New cards

How do you test for carbon dioxide gas?

Bring a lighted match to where the carbon dioxide gas should be (or flowing). If the match goes out then that gas is carbon dioxide

13
New cards

How do you text for hydrogen gas?

Place a lighted match in a tube containing the gas. If the match makes a 'pop' sound, then the gas is hydrogen (hydrogen gas burns very quickly in oxygen)

What is the experiment to measure the rate of photosynthesis?

Place a piece of pondweed in a water bath and shine a lamp on it. Measure the distance between the lamp and pondweed with a ruler and count the number of bubbles produced after a couple of minutes. Make sure water is 25 degrees Celsius
