Independent Samples T-Test
A statistical method used to compare the means of two independent groups.
Pooled Variance
A weighted average of the variances from two samples, used to improve population SD estimates.
Homogeneity of Variance (HOV)
The assumption that variances in different groups are equal, important for t-tests.
Negative T-Values
When the t-obtained value is negative, requiring a corresponding negative t-critical value.
Hypothesis Testing Steps
Steps including forming hypotheses, determining alpha, calculating t-crit, and making H0 decisions.
Degrees of Freedom (DF)
A parameter used in statistical tests, calculated for each group and combined.
Effect Size
A quantitative measure of the magnitude of the experimental effect, often computed after a t-test.
Pooled Standard Deviation (Sw)
The square root of the pooled variance, used in effect size calculations.
