BV (Bacterial Vaginosis)
A condition characterized by thin gray/white discharge, fishy odor, pH >4.5, and the presence of clue cells.
Amsel criteria
A clinical tool where Meeting 3 of 4 criteria confirms a diagnosis of Bacterial Vaginosis (BV).
Metronidazole 500 mg BID ×7 days
The first-line treatment regimen for Bacterial Vaginosis (BV).
Chlamydia treatment
Diagnosis via NAAT and treatment with doxycycline 100mg BID for 7 days.
Gonorrhea treatment
Ceftriaxone 500mg IM once if <150kg; 1g if >150kg.
Syphilis treatment (primary/secondary)
Benzathine penicillin G 2.4 million units IM administered once.
STI screening (age ≤25)
Annual chlamydia and gonorrhea screening for sexually active women in this age group.
Menopause
Defined as 12 consecutive months without menstruation.
GSM (Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause)
Treated with local vaginal estrogen.
Estrogen contraindications
DVT/PE, migraine with aura, uncontrolled HTN, current or recent breast cancer, smoker ≥35, and postpartum period <21 days.
Contraceptive implant
A method that is >99% effective and lasts approximately 3 years.
Copper IUD
A contraceptive with ∼99.2% typical-use effectiveness; also identified as the most effective form of Emergency Contraception (EC).
Levonorgestrel EC
Emergency contraception to be used within ≤72 hours.
Ulipristal
Emergency contraception to be used within ≤120 hours.
2020 ACS cervical screening
Routine screening starts at age 25, with primary HPV testing every 5 years preferred.
USPSTF 2018 (ages 30–65)
Screening options include Pap every 3 years, HPV every 5 years, or co-testing every 5 years.
Secondary amenorrhea
A condition where a pregnancy test must be performed FIRST during evaluation.
PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)
A diagnosis of exclusion where lifestyle modification is emphasized for metabolic health or overweight concerns.
PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease)
Treated empirically if CMT, uterine, or adnexal tenderness is present; includes ceftriaxone plus doxycycline ± metronidazole, with reassessment in 72 hours.
