Explain the green house effect process

– Solar radiation from the Sun passes through the atmosphere and hits the Earth.

– Some of this energy is reflected straight back towards space while some is absorbed by the Earth and then remitted towards space.

– Some of remitted energy makes it all the way to space but Much is absorbed by small molecules called greenhouse gases.

– These molecules then remit the energy and the whole process of absorption and emission can happen over and over again.

– This trapped energy keeps the atmosphere warmer and more stable than it would be otherwise.

What is the difference between global warming and climate change

Global warming refers to overall increase in the earths temperature, whilst climate change is a consequence of global warming refers to the effect on the climate

What are the consequences of global warming

– Rising sea levels leading to habitat loss – as the sea gets warmer expands causing sea levels to rise, higher temperatures also can make ice melt. Water that’s currently trapped on land runs into the sea, causing sea levels to rise even more.

– Changes in the distribution of organisms – water plants and animals are found in places where they can survive where it’s the right temperature so they have access to the right resources food water shelter as temperature goes up the distribution of many wild animals and plants species may change

– Changes to migration patterns global warming could lead to change in migration patterns.

-less biodiversity – if some species are unable to adapt to a change in the climate they won’t be able to survive and the species will become extinct
