What is Microbiology
It is the study of small organisms called microbes that are too small to be seen with a naked eye
what is a microbe
3 domains that are bacteria, archara, eukarya
List the name of each type of microbe, along with the domain of life it belongs to, whether it is unicellular or multicellular, and whether it is a producer or a consumer.
bacteria a prokaryotic and unicellular. They can be producers or consumers.
Archaea are prokaryotic and unicellular. they can be producers and conumers.
Eukarya include protists, fungi and animals
Protistst: protozoa are unicellular and consumers, algae can me unicellular or multicellular and are producers.
Fungi; yeast is unicellular and consumers and mold is mulit ceullular while they are consumers
Animals: helminths are multicellular and are consumers
How is an acellular infectious agent different from an organism?
They are different because they cannot survive without on another and cannot produce on their own
List the three acellular infectious agents and their molecular components.
Viruses DNA RNA and Protein
Viroids RNA
Priors Proteins
What is the limit of vision of a human eye?
100um
How big is a typical prokaryotic cell, eukaryotic cell and a virus?
10um x 30=300um for Eukaryotic 1um x 30 = 30um prokaryotic and virus 0.1um 100nm
How can we view single cells?
Microscope
Who was the first person to build a microscope? Who was the first person to observe microbes?
Antonie van Leeuwenhoke and Robert Hooke
In your own words, explain 5 ways in which microbes are essential for our lives.
Digestion: good bacteria is in ur stomach ur immune system for protection; they take up space so bad germs cannot grow there. Oxygen production: they are all in the air, Soil and plant health: they live in dirt and break down dead plants. Food creation. Yeast is a microbe and they help make bread.
N=N to make
ammonia
what does nitrogen make
