What causes a build up of static?
Friction.
What happens when materials are rubbed together?
The electrons move from one to the other. One material becomes positively charged and the other is negatively charged. The positive charges do not move.
What can happen if there is too much static?
A spark can be caused. If potential difference is large enough, the electrons can jump across the gap - this is the spark.
What do electrical charges create?
Create an electric field. The closer you get to the object, the stronger the field.
How can the electrical field be shown?
By drawing field lines, they go from positive to negative.
What happens if a charged object is placed near the field?
It will experience a force. The force becomes stronger as the charged object gets closer.
