General Solubility Guidelines Chart
A reference table outlining which ionic compounds are soluble (aq) or insoluble (s) in water along with their specific cation/anion exceptions.
Group IA Cations Solubility
Compounds containing Group IA cations are soluble in water (aq) with no exceptions listed.
Ammonium Solubility Rule
Compounds containing ammonium (NH4+) are soluble in water (aq) with no exceptions listed.
Nitrate, Acetate, and Chlorate Solubility
Compounds containing nitrate, acetate, or chlorate are soluble in water (aq) with no exceptions listed.
Chloride, Bromide, and Iodide Solubility
Compounds containing chloride, bromide, or iodide are soluble in water (aq), except when combined with Ag+, Pb2+, or Hg22+.
Sulfate Solubility
Compounds containing sulfate are soluble in water (aq), except when combined with Ag+, Pb2+, Hg22+, or Ba2+.
Sulfide, Carbonate, and Phosphate Solubility
Compounds containing sulfide, carbonate, or phosphate are insoluble in water (s), except when combined with Group IA cations or NH4+.
Hydroxide Solubility
Compounds containing hydroxide are insoluble in water (s), except when combined with Group IA cations or NH4+.
