Positive Correlation

• as one variable increases, so does the other

• goes up left to right

Negative Correlation

• as one variable increases, the other decreases

• goes down left to right

Zero Correlation

• there is no relationship between the co-variables

• scrambled results

How is it different to experiments

cannot establish a cause and effect because there is no manipulating of variables

Directional Hypothesis

there is a positive/negative correlation between variable and variable

Non-directional Hypothesis

there is a correlation between variable and variable

Null Hypothesis

there is no correlation between variable and variable
