Chassis and Driver Controls

Chassis

The main frame of the kart that supports and connects most of the kart's components

Seat

The component that supports and positions the driver inside the kart

Steering Wheel

The wheel controlled by the driver to turn the kart

Steering Column

The shaft that connects the steering wheel to the steering mechanism and transfers the driver's steering input

Tie Rods

Rods connecting the steering system to the front wheel assemblies that transfer steering movement and allow the front wheels to turn

King Pin

A vertical bolt or pin that connects the spindle to the chassis and allows the front wheel assembly to pivot for steering

Spindle

The front steering component that holds the wheel hub and allows the wheel to pivot when the kart is steered

Throttle Pedal

The pedal operated by the driver to control engine throttle and increase or decrease engine power

Throttle Cable

The cable that transfers movement from the throttle pedal to the carburetor

Brake Pedal

The pedal operated by the driver to activate the braking system and slow or stop the kart

Bumper

Protective tubing at the front of the kart that helps protect the chassis and driver from impacts

Side Pods

Protective bodywork mounted along the sides of the kart that helps protect the driver and chassis from impacts

Firewall

A protective panel between the driver and engine area that helps shield the driver from heat, fuel, and moving component

Torsion bar

A bar that connects to the kart chassis and helps control chassis flex

Belly pan

Flat metal plate fitted under frame that protects the engine and chassis from road debris
