Mucous membrane

Lines tubes and ducts that open to outside of body

Serous membranes

Lines body cavity and covers internal organs

Membranes

They are thin sheets of tissues, they cover surfaces and serve as dividers, line hollow organs and anchor of organisms. They contain epithelial and connective tissue

Muscle tissues

Skeletal- voluntary; stirated

Cardiac- involuntary; stirated

Smooth muscle- “visceral muscle” involuntary and unstriated

Nervous tissue

Makes up body’s communication system, contains brain nerves and spinal cord

Where does cartilage come from?

Chondrocytes

Matrix

Intercellular background material, contains water, protein fibers and hard materials

Cancer treatment

Surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, angiogenesis blockers

Malignant tumors

Cancerous; examples include- leukemia, carcinoma, sarcoma, gleoma

Benign tumors

Non cancerous; Papilloma, Lipoma, Adenoma

Provides a protective covering for the body

Psudostratified- Collum cells that appear stratified but are not

Biopsy

Surgical removal of living tissue for the purpose of microscopic examination

Signs of cancer

Lump that doesn’t go away, change in color, shape or size, sore that doesn’t heal, difficulty in swallowing, white patches on mouth etc

Stem cells

Actively dividing cells that produce all other cells

Tumor markers

Proteins not produced by other cells

Endocrine gland

Secrete not through ducts but directly into surrounding tissue fluid, an example would be adrenal gland and pancreas

Exocrine gland

Use ducts to deliver products to other regions example would be sweat and salivary glands

Produce substances that are sent out to other parts of the body
