Policial-Militar na ativa (Active Status)
Includes career military personnel, voluntary enlistees during their service period, remunerated reserve components when called up, and students in military-police training courses.
Policial-Militar na inatividade (Inactive Status)
Refers to military personnel in the remunerated reserve subject to call-up and reformed (reformados) personnel who are definitively exempted from active service but still receive state pay.
Militares de Carreira (Career Military)
Personnel who perform voluntary and permanent military-police service and have assured or presumed stability.
Oficial da Polícia Militar (Officers Career)
A career path exclusively restricted to native-born Brazilians (brasileiros natos).
Hierarquia (Hierarchy)

A position created by law that must only be exercised by military-police officers in active service.

Compromisso de Honra (Oath)
A solemn commitment made upon entering the Military Police or being declared an Aspirante-a-Oficial, promising to preserve public order and follow moral precepts.

The sum of authority, duties, and responsibilities invested in a military officer to lead men or direct a Military-Police Organization.
Agregação (Aggregation)
The situation where an active member leaves their vacancy in the hierarchical scale but remains without a number, often due to being unfit for health reasons for over 1 year, or candidacy for elective office.
Reversão (Reversion)
The act of returning an aggregated military member to their respective cadre once the reason for the aggregation has ceased.
Excedente (Surplus)
A transitory situation for military members who revert to a full cadre, are promoted by bravery without a vacancy, or await placement after a transfer.
Ausente (Absent)
The status of a military member who fails to appear or leaves their organization without authorization for more than 24 consecutive hours.
Desaparecido (Missing)
An active military member whose whereabouts are unknown for more than 8 consecutive days during service or calamities.
Extraviado (Incommunicado/Lost)
A member who remains in
Reforma (Reform)
Definitive transfer to inactivity, occurring ex-officio when a member reaches age limits in the reserve or is judged permanently incapacitated for service.
Licença-Prêmio (Premium Leave)
A 3-month leave granted for every quinquennium (5 years) of effective service, taken without pay restriction.
Prerrogativas (Prerogatives)
Rights including the use of titles/uniforms, honors, special court for military crimes, and fulfilling prison sentences in military organizations.
