Temporal Lobe
Processes auditory information
Involved in memory

Parietal Lobes
Process touch sensation (general somatic)
Also has "sensory integration" areas

Sensory Integration Areas
Coordinate information from various senses
Occipital Lobes
Process visual information

Primary Sensory Areas
Areas within the lobes where sensation is first consciously detected
IE: temporal=sound, parietal=touch
-recognition of sensation without identification
3 Major Gyri
1. Superior
2. Medial
3. Inferior
ALL located in Temoral Bone
Heschl's Area
- Primary sensation of sound
- Deep within temporal lobe, near the insula, at the posterior end of the Sylvian fissure
- found on BOTH left and right temporal lobes
- LOCATED: interior of the superior temporal gyrus
Wernicke's Area
On the superior temporal gyrus, at the posterior end of the Sylvian fissure
Function: processes speech sounds
ONLY found on the LEFT hemisphere of the Temporal Bone
