Detects stimuli and sends information from receptors to the CNS
Function of the Motor nervous system:
sends information from the CNS to effectors and parts of the body to act on the information.
What is the difference between somatic and visceral sensory systems
Somatic systems: you have conscious awareness you are taking in information. Visceral it is unconscious and you are unaware it is happening.
Difference between somatic motor and autonomic motor systems:
Somatic is the voluntary control of motor output, like moving your arm through skeletal muscle. Autonomic is involuntary, like your heart beating faster when scared.
What are the receptors that provide CNS with information about body position
Proprioreceptors
What does it mean to have good awareness about where your body is in space, and what your limbs are doing
kinesthesia.
What do golgi tendons do?
They detect the tension applied to tendons by muscles contracting and send that information to the spinal cord to prevent injuries.
What is the key difference between golgi tendons and muscle spindles? How are they related?
Golig tendons measure the tension in a muscle while the muscle spindle measure the length and speed of contraction. The key difference is that golgi tendons help to stop excessive force, while muscle spindles help stop the muscle overstretching, leading to injury.
What is the golgi tendon reflex?
a protective measure by the body to relax the muscle if muscular forces are too high. It prevents the muscle from tearing itself off of the bone.
Describe the post synaptic potential of the golgi tendon when it fires
The action potential becomes negative because the standard muscular contractile action potential goes from negative to positive, so to stop this we need to go from positive to negative.
