Somatic systems: you have conscious awareness you are taking in information. Visceral it is unconscious and you are unaware it is happening.

What do golgi tendons do?

They detect the tension applied to tendons by muscles contracting and send that information to the spinal cord to prevent injuries.

What is the key difference between golgi tendons and muscle spindles? How are they related?

Golig tendons measure the tension in a muscle while the muscle spindle measure the length and speed of contraction. The key difference is that golgi tendons help to stop excessive force, while muscle spindles help stop the muscle overstretching, leading to injury.

What is the golgi tendon reflex?

a protective measure by the body to relax the muscle if muscular forces are too high. It prevents the muscle from tearing itself off of the bone.

Describe the post synaptic potential of the golgi tendon when it fires

The action potential becomes negative because the standard muscular contractile action potential goes from negative to positive, so to stop this we need to go from positive to negative.
