Computer System

A system of devices that work together to take input, process and store data, and display output, consisting of hardware, software, and user.

Computer Systems Servicing (CSS)

A course under the Department of Education's K to 12 program designed to equip aspiring computer service technicians with the skills and knowledge needed to work with computer systems.

Basic Competencies

A category of CSS competencies involving understanding PECs, displaying career professionalism in a work environment, and following OHS procedures.

Common Competencies

A category of CSS competencies that includes using hand tools, performing mensuration and calculations, applying quality standards, performing basic operations, preparing technical drawings, testing electrical components, and connecting wiring.

Core Competencies

A category of CSS competencies focused on installing and configuring computer systems, setting up computer networks, maintaining and repairing systems and networks, and setting up computer servers.

Personal Entrepreneurial Competencies (PECs)

Transferable traits, qualities, and skills—such as creativity, independence, and assertiveness—needed to become a successful entrepreneur and perform job duties reliably.

Achievement Cluster

A cluster of PECs traits that help individuals finish tasks and achieve goals, including being hardworking, opportunity-seeking, risk-taking, good at decision-making, and having problem-solving skills.

Planning Cluster

A cluster of PECs traits that teach effective planning and goal setting, including being skilled at planning, goal-oriented, open-minded, and creative.

Power Cluster

A cluster of PECs traits that assist with networking, personal empowerment, and boosting workplace self-esteem, characterized by being confident and social.

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)

The rules and standards established to promote a safe work environment and secure workforce safety and well-being.

Republic Act No. 11058

The law in compliance with which Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards must be enforced across all work settings.

Ergonomic Hazards

Workplace hazards that can negatively affect the physical health of individuals in the work environment.

Biological Hazards

Biohazards, such as viruses, that spread when frequently touched components like keyboards, mice, and touchscreens are not habitually cleaned or sanitized.

Electrical Hazards

Workplace hazards caused by the mishandling of electrical equipment.

Fire Hazards

Hazards where even a small fire originating in a computer laboratory can cause substantial damage to electronic devices.

Incident Report Form

A workplace document used to record details of an incident, including personal details, incident description, date/time/place, cause, injuries, treatments, and recommended actions.
