How do you go from moles to your empirical formula?

Step 1. Divide both numbers in the columns by the smallest number between the two moles listed in the table. Ex: If the moles listed are 2.17, and 4.35 you would choose 2.17! Step 2. Write out your two elements and right beside each of them you put whatever number you got in the first step in front of the element.

How do you go from your empirical formula to your molecular formula?

Step 1: You take your empirical formula for example: NO2.005 and save that for a late step. Step 2: multiply the atomic mass by each of the numbers that were put beside your element in your empirical formula. Step 3: Add them all. Step 4: Whatever number you end up with you will put on the BOTTOM of a fraction too divide by your molar mass which should be in the instructions of the problem you are answering. Step 5: After dividing you should end up with a whole number which should then be mutiplied by whatever the numbers were beside your empiracal formula for example: NO2.OO5=N2O4.01

Steps for finding the empirical formula?

1st: Find what the elements are in the problem. 2st: MASS% IS NOT NEEDED FOR THIS PROCESS. 3rd: Look at the numbers the problem gives you too find out what your amount of grams is. 4th: Use your gram amounts to find out what your amount of moles will be! You will do this by dividing your amount of grams by whatever the atomic mass is for that element listed! 5th: Divide by the smallest number throughout the entire table. 6th: Take those numbers you found and write them in subscript notation next too your elements!
