Badminton
A sport that originated in the 16th century and is played indoors, with Asian countries like China and India producing some of the best players.
Object of Game
The objective is to hit the shuttlecock over the net and have it land in the designated court areas, winning points by forcing opponents to hit the shuttlecock out or into the net.
Players and Equipment
Two forms of badminton - singles and doubles - with players using a stringed racket and a shuttlecock made of a half-round ball and feathers.
Court Dimensions
The court measures 6.1m wide and 13.4m long, with a net running at 1.55m and tram lines on each side.
Scoring
Points are scored by successfully hitting the shuttlecock over the net and landing it in the opponent's court or when the opponent hits the shuttlecock into the net or outside the parameters.
Winning the Game
To win a game, a player must reach 21 points before the opponent, with a two-point advantage if the score is tied at 20-20. Winning the overall game requires winning 2 out of 3 sets.
Rules of Badminton
Games can be played with two (singles) or four (doubles) players, indoors on the proper court dimensions. Points are scored within the opponent's court, and faults occur when the shuttlecock hits the net or lands out. Players must serve diagonally, underarm and below the waist.
