Box Plot
A graph that shows the 5-number summary of a data set.
Categorical Data
Data that describes qualities or categories.
Distribution
The way data values are spread out or arranged.
Dot Plot
A graph that shows data points on a number line.
Frequency
The number of times a value or category occurs.
Histogram
A graph that shows the frequency of data in intervals.
Interquartile Range (IQR)
The distance between the first quartile (Q1) and third quartile (Q3).
Maximum Value
The greatest value in a data set.
Mean
The average of a data set; found by fair sharing.
Median
The middle value in a data set when ordered.
Minimum Value
The least value in a data set.
Mode
The value that occurs most often.
Measures of Center
Numbers that describe the middle or typical value (mean, median, mode).
Measures of Spread
Numbers that describe how spread out the data is (range, IQR).
Outlier
A data value that is far from the rest of the data.
Range
The difference between the maximum and minimum values.
Statistical question
A question that anticipates variability in the data.
Statistics
The study of collecting, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data.
Symmetrical or Non-Symmetrical
Describes the shape of a distribution.
Variability
How much the data values differ from each other.
Numerical Data
Data that consists of numbers.
