G1 Cycle
The cell grows normally or rests. Chromosomes start to thicken.
G1 Checkpoint Questions
Is the cell big enough? Is the environment favorable for the cell? Is the DNA damaged or intact?
S Phase (Synthesis Phase)
The cell duplicates all its DNA, organelles, and proteins in preparation for cell division.
G2 Phase
The cell continues to grow, centrioles double, and spindle fibers start to develop.
G2 Checkpoint Questions
Have we completed DNA replication? Is the environment favorable? Is the cell big enough?
Mitosis
Cell division process including prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase, where chromosomes line up and separate.
Mitosis Checkpoint Questions
Are all of our chromosomes aligned at the equator? Is there any misalignment?
G1 Checkpoint (Cell Growth Checkpoint)
Checkpoint at the end of G1 phase checking for normal cell activities.
G2 Checkpoint (DNA Synthesis Checkpoint)
Checkpoint at the end of G2 phase checking for normal DNA synthesis.
Metaphase Checkpoint (Mitosis Checkpoint)
Checkpoint at the end of metaphase in mitosis checking for proper chromosome alignment.
