Atom
The smallest basic unit of matter that consists of a nucleus made of protons and neutrons, surrounded by electrons in energy levels.
Element
A pure substance made of one type of atom.
Compound
A substance formed when two or more different elements bond together.
Ion
An atom that has gained or lost one or more electrons, resulting in a positive or negative charge.
Covalent bond
A bond formed when two atoms share a pair of electrons.
Ionic bond
A bond that forms between oppositely charged ions.
Diatomic molecules
Molecules composed of only two atoms, which can be of the same or different chemical elements.
Water (H2O)
A compound consisting of two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen atom.
Carbon dioxide (CO2)
A compound formed from one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms.
