What is Tanha?
* Tanha means thirst/craving
* this thirst for impermanent TEPE is what causes us to suffer
* the desire is not wrong, but the expectations that we place on them is - we expect them to make us happy forever but they won’t
* we fail to recognize everything is impermanent which causes us to be come attached which keeps us stuck in Samsara
* Tanha derives from the TRP which are the flames that fuel the wheel of Samsara

What is the first noble truth?
DUKKHA - LIFE IS FULL OF SUFFERING

* nothing will ever truly satisfy us
* we suffer when we don’t get what we want as it is out of reach
* your longing for things gets in the way of everything else
* stuffing may temporarily go away when you get something you want but it will always come back
* good times involve suffering as we know they’ll end and we will miss them

What is the second noble truth?
TANHA - SUFFERING IS CAUSED BY DESIRE

* when you want something it has a hold on you and sometimes blinds you to everything else
* perhaps what you do to try to achieve what you want isn’t helpful to you or others - something may be very difficult for you to achieve so in wanting it you are constantly beating yourself up pointlessly about something you can’t have control over
* the desire cannot be fulfilled which causes suffering

What is the third noble truth?
NIBBANA - TO STOP SUFFERING YOU HAVE TO STOP DESIRING

* once this has happened you achieve the state of Nibbana
* the aim is not to satisfy your desire by achieving it, but instead to not have the desire in the first place
* Nibbana is a state of transcendence. You turn the tables on the things you desire by putting yourself out of their reach by not wanting them
* once you’re out of their reach they no longer have a hold on you and you won’t suffer

What is the fourth noble truth?
NOBLE E.FOLD PATH - FOLLOW THE N8FP

* the N8FP isn’t a single statement kure the other truths, it’s a set of steps leading to a state of existence where you no longer desire thing so you no longer suffer
* the steps don’t come in any order and they last throughout your life
* suffering is happening moment by moment so you must have the N8FP in your mind constantly so that it’s second nature in order to free yourself from suffering
* the N8FP is about how you live and respond to what life throws at you
