Mortality

Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)
A government body responsible for gathering and interpreting health data within Australia.
Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW)
An organisation that provides valuable and reliable information to assist in establishing the direction of the healthcare system.
Life expectancy
The average number of years a person is expected to live based on current age and death rates for their gender.
Sociological causes
Broad features of society, such as social relationships, culture, media, and government, that influence health behaviours.
Inequities
Higher barriers to health and wellbeing faced by certain communities due to ongoing social, economic, and political disadvantages.
Cardiovascular Disease (CVD)
A group of conditions including coronary heart disease, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease.
CVD Incidence
The rate of new cases, involving approximately 157 coronary events each day in Australia.
Medicare
Australia's national healthcare system that provides subsidised healthcare services and free treatment in public hospitals.
Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS)
A government program that subsidises the cost of certain prescription medicines to make them more affordable.
Bulk billing
A system where the doctor bills Medicare directly for a consultation so the patient does not pay a fee.
Telehealth
Digital healthcare involving video consultations and online appointments to improve access for people in rural and remote locations.
My Health Record
A digital record of a person's health information that can be accessed by authorised healthcare professionals.
Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS)
Services designed around the needs of the community that are culturally safe and community-led.
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
A scheme that provides support and assistance to Australians with disability to facilitate independent living.

A strategy aiming to create digital healthcare that is person-centred, inclusive, and equitable.
