What does WHMIS stand for
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
Class A-Compressed Gas
compressed gases, dissolved gases or gases that turn into liquid from compression or refrigeration

Class B-Flammable and Compustible Material
Flammable solid, liquid, gas or aerosol, combustible liquid and reactive flammable material

Class C-Oxidizing Material
Materials where if given oxygen (or something similar to oxygen) or comes in contact with flammable or combustible materials, will create a fire

Class D
Poisonous and Infectious Material
D1 Immediate and serious toxic effects
Materials will cause death if someone is exposed to it in small amount

D2 Materials causes other Toxic Effects
Materials that cause eye or skin irritation or, long term effects if the person is exposed to it multiple times in small amount

D3 Biohazardous Infectious Material
Materials that have harmful microorganisms

Class E- Corrosive Material
Materials that destroy the skin or eats through metals

Class F- Dangerously Reactive Material
Products that have a dangerous reaction to heat, pressure, shock or contact with water

Class A Fire
Ordinary objects that are flammable ex; wood, paper, cloth. Approved extinguisher is A,B or C
Class B Fire
Flammable liquids ex; Gasoline, paints, oil, grease. Approved extinguisher is A, B or C
Class C Fire
Live electrical equipment ex; electrical wiring, fuse box. Approved extinguisher is A, B, C
Class D Fire
Combustial Metals. Approved extinguisher is Bucket of Sand or Type D
Class K Fire
s dealing with animal fats or cooking oil. Approved extinguisher is Type
What is PASS?
An acronym to help remember how to use a fire extinguisher
P-Pull the pin safety pin,
A- Aim at the base of the fire,
S- Squeeze the handle,
S- Sweep from side to side.
How to use a Fire Blanket?
-The le tabs to get the fire blanket
-Use the corners of the blanket to over your hands
-Place the blanket over the fire or, wrap the person with the fire blanket
-Turn off the heat source
-Leave the blanket on the fire for 15 minutes
-If the fire is on a person, make them stop, drop and roll on the ground with the fire blanket on
When to wash your hands in the kitchen
after touching pets or garbage, coughing/sneezing, using the bathroom and before or after handling food
What is Foodborne Illness
an illness that happens after eating or drinking contaminated food. Common sings of a food born illness is vomiting and diarrhea
How do you take out a grease fire in the kitchen?
If there is no fire blanket or fire extinguisher, use a pot pan over the flames or pour baking soda to smother the greases from the fire.
What to wear in the kitchen
-Wear well protected feet wear that also have stability
-Long hair must tied back or covered-
Have an apron on and clothes that protect your skin
-Don’t wear very baggy clothes or open toed shoes while in the kitchen
How do you unplug a wire properly
-Un plug directly from the outlet and not just pull the cord. Doing so could damage the socket and the wires.
How to use cleaning supplies correctly in the kitchen?
Make sure you're using them when there's no food around to not contaminate the foo
NEVER mix chemicals together while cleaning
Remember to protect yourself while using and harsh cleaning chemicals
