Depth Perception
The ability to determine how far away different objects are in the world.
Monocular Depth Cue
A cue to depth that is available even when viewed with one eye.
Pictorial Depth Cues
Depth cues used by artists to depict three-dimensionality in two-dimensional images.
Occlusion
A monocular depth cue where one object obstructs the view of part of another.
Relative Size
A metrical depth cue that provides quantitative information about depth based on the known size of objects.
Familiar Size
A monocular depth cue based on knowledge of the typical size of objects.
Texture Gradients
Depth information provided indirectly by the orientation of a surface in terms of compression and anisotropy.
Aerial Perspective
The effect of atmospheric haze causing distant objects to appear fainter and bluer.
Linear Perspective
The visual phenomenon where parallel lines converge as they extend into the distance in a 2D image.
Motion Parallax
A depth cue where nearby objects appear to move more quickly than distant objects when the observer moves.
Accommodation
The process of adjusting the lens of the eye to bring objects into focus, providing depth cues both absolutely and relatively.
Defocus Blur
The blurriness of objects at different depths which provides a cue to depth in a visual scene.
Miniature Faking via Tilt/Shift Effect
A visual effect that creates the illusion of miniature scale by manipulating focus.
accommodation cue
lens needs more accommodation to focus on objects that are closer.
defocus cue
objects in a different depth plane look more blurry ss
