New cards

Ly6G (green)

Effective surface marker for neutrophil identification, whether they’re mature and mobile.

2
New cards

Ly6G continued…

What are neutrophils?

They are special white blood cells, specifically in areas of tissue where acute inflammation is, and search for infection by recognizing the marked bacteria for antibodies and engulfing it.

3
New cards

CD68 (the 1st cyan with green)

Found on the surface of macrophages which are white blood cells in the immune system.

4
New cards

GFAP (2nd cyan)

Found in astrocytes which are a main type of glial cells in the CNS.

5
New cards

GFAP continued…

What are glial cells?

they provide physical and chemical support to neurons

6
New cards

PDGFRb (red)

Plays a role in tissue regeneration and growth. Important for wound healing.

7
New cards

Drp1

A mitochondrial fission protein that regulates the process of the mitochondrial separating by creating a ring around a mitochondria and a damaged one, and separating them. Regulates the structural features of the mitochondria.

8
New cards

What is Drp1 role in mice?

Widely expressed in the mouse central nervous system and is essential for mouse embryonic development.

9
New cards

What does Drp1 control (+/+) mean?

Refers to a factor that is held constant or controlled to serve as a baseline for comparison, in this case it is being compared to Drp heterozygote knockout mice.

10
New cards

What does Drp1 heterozygote (+/ -) knockout mice mean?

This refers to the mice that have genetically modified in my experiment to have one function and one non-functional copy of the Drp1 gene. Allows me to see the effect of Drp1 deficiency.
