Epithelial Tissue

cover the body (internal and external); cells are close together, form most glands, have free surface.

Pseudostratified Columnar

appear stratifies but isn’t; secret mucus and propel debris out of resp. tract (cilia), for nasal cavity and trachea

Stratified Squamous

many layers of flat, tile-like cells; protect and act as a barrier, found skin, mouth, throat, esophagus

transitional

changes shape; hold fluid, found in urinary bladder

connective tissue

cells far apart, contain large amount of extracellular matrix

Loose

collagen fibers are far apart

Dense

collagen fibers packed together ; connect and can withstand pulling forces

Adipose

collagen, elastic fibers, and cells with lipids; storage, insulate, and cushion

bone

hard connective tissue, compact and spongy, composed of osteocytes.

blood

liquid connective tissue, composed erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets, transport flood, oxygen, water and hormones.

cartilage

composed of chondrocytes, contains collagen, withstand compression, provide support, flexibility, and strength.
