Individualism

The belief that individuals should be responsible for themselves and their decisions

Political Culture

The set of beliefs, customs, traditions, and values that define the relationship between citizens and the government.

Laissez-fair / free enterprise

The government treads on economic transactions in society as little as possible.

Equal Opportunity

The belief that all individuals have the opportunities to succeed under the Declaration of Independence

Rule of Law

The belief that no one, including public officials, is above the law.

Limited Government

Governmental power isn’t absolute. Instead, it is based on public support (Bill of Rights, Checks and balances, Republicanism, Federalism)

Political Socialization

The experiences and factors that shape a person’s political ideology and behaviors.

Families

The first choice of political information for children, often gathered by journalism, conversation, and express expression.

Schools and Peers

Schools introduce students to the government and the role of politics. When students learn about politics, and volunteerism, it provides many perspectives.

Religious Organizations

Influence, political, socialization (Jewish people are more liberal, Christians more conservative). Doctrinal positions on issues weigh heavily.

Civic Organizations

Promotes norms of organizational goals; develops skills in organizing, public speaking, fundraising, and interacting with government officials

Generational Effect

The impact of historical events experienced by a generation upon their political views

Life-cycle effect

The impact of a person‘s age and stage in life on his or her political views

Globalization

The increasing interconnectedness of people, businesses, and countries throughout the world

Outsourcing

When a company moves its business to a place where labor costs are cheap cheaper, or production is more efficient because workers work for longer hours
