Molecules are drawn into our nose

They settle in a mucous membrane at the top of each nostril

What are molecules absorbed by?

Molecules are absorbed by the receptor cells

Receptor cells are linked to?

Receptor cells are linked to the olfactory bulb which sends information to the brain

Pheromones

A chemical signal that is released outside the body by members of the same species

Vestibular sense

• Monitors your head’s position and movement

• Our sense of balance

• Located in the semicircular canals in our ears

Kinesthetic sense

The sense for sensing the positions and movement of individual body parts

Where are receptors located?

Receptors are located in our muscles and joints

Proprioception

The sense of body movement and position, resulting from stimulation of the proprioceptors located in the muscles, tendons, and joints, and of vestibular receptors

Sensory interaction

The principle that one sense can influence another, as when the smell of food influences its taste

Synesthesia

A phenomenon in which senses become jointed where one sort of sensation involuntary produces another
