At the Crime Scene

Get it All- If there is any doubt it is involved, bag it and tag it
Get it right- Document it properly .
Get it the First time. You have legal access to the scene, get what you need. You can't prove that physical evidence collected later was there at the original scene.

Ryder v. Michigan states that in some cases you may not be able to go back and retrieve something later.

What is proprietary interest?

Something noticed at the scene that could lead the detectives to believe that the perpetrator had some type of ownership interest at the scene.

Prerequisites for the profile

Scene-Full crime scene investigation and knowledge
Autopsy/Medica;- Results giving investigator a closer time of death, cause of death, wounds
Victim Background- Routine, job, marital status, hangouts, friends and relatives, interview co-workers

Characteristics the profile can provide

Age, Gender, Race, Marital Status, Education/Intelligence, Socio-economic, Residence, Physical Description, Automobile, Employment, Mental health, Military, Criminal History General Behavior Characteristics (14 different characteristics in total)

monomania definition

A one way love affair that the perpetrator has for the victim. The victim has little to no knowledge.

Set of criteria for monomania

1. Excessive Stabbing
2. Post mortem penetration
3. Post mortem binding
4. Post mortem assault to the heart
5. Death as a result of either direct assault to the heart or blunt force trauma to the head.

Disposition- if they do not hold on to it, they will usually hide it where it can not be found.

Was probably with the perpetrator. Knew death would occur for a long time.

Adequate Organized Crime Offender: Crime Scene Characteristics

Ante-mortem abuse: Before death abuse
Neat: The crime scene is clean
Concealed: The crime scene is concealed, and unless it's purposeful, will only be found on accident
Displayed: If it is purposeful, the victim will be displayed the way the perpetrator wants them to be.
Post mortem Transportation: The body will be moved after death
Ante-mortem Transportation: Only will happen if they feel like it will be discovered before the perpetrator has left the scene.

The Adequate Organized Offender: Profile

1. Age- Roughly the same as the victim, unless they become a serial killer
2. Race, same race as the victim
3. Marital Status- Single or prefer to be single
4. Education/Intelligence Level- Ususally superior IQ, but a highschool dropout or a highschool diploma at most.

Adequate Organized Offender: Behavioral Characteristics

1. Gregarious- Outgoing, mixes well with others
2. Good talker- sounds intelligent, can hold a conversation
3. Ladies man- Found attractive and knows it
4. Good dresser- Wears good clothes
5. Dates frequently
6. When insulted/threatened-Doesn't get even, gets revenge

Inadequate Organized Offender: Crime Scene Characteristics

1. Messy Scene- A lot of clues
2. Post Mortem Sex
3. Victim Dumped- thrown away like trash
4. Concealment- Makes no effort to conceal the body
5. Body where the crime occurred
6. Partially Clothed- Will leave clothes on that do not get in their way
7. Mutilation- Post mortem mutilation

The Inadequate Organized Offender: Profile

1. Age- If the perpetrator becomes a killer at a young age, the victim is in the same age bracket.

11. Employment- Minimum wage, drifts from job to job
12. Military History- Drafted Only, anything to get them dishonorably discharged
13. Criminal History- Anything and Everything

4. Very intense, serious but short term relationships
