Viral Diseases
Illnesses caused by viruses including Chickenpox, Measles, Influenza, Common Cold, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, Smallpox, Polio, COVID-19, and Herpes.
Viruses
Extremely small infectious agents that require a host cell to reproduce.
Electron Microscope
A special microscope used by scientists to view viruses due to their tiny size.
Host Cell
The living cell that a virus invades in order to reproduce.
Mucus
A thick liquid produced by the body to trap and eliminate viruses, often leading to symptoms like a runny nose.
Flu vs. Cold
Flu symptoms are more severe and can result in higher fever, while colds are generally mild with symptoms developing slowly.
Vaccine
A biological preparation that provides active acquired immunity to a particular infectious disease, such as flu.
Measles
A viral disease characterized by fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a spreading rash.
Chickenpox
A viral infection causing itchy red spots that develop into blisters, fever, and tiredness.
Plasmodium
The parasite that causes Malaria, spread to humans through mosquito bites.
Anti-Coagulant
A substance in mosquito saliva that prevents blood from clotting.
Amoebic Dysentery
An intestinal infection caused by a parasite spread through contaminated food or water.
Fungi
Organisms that spread through spores, needing moisture and warmth to grow.
Tinea (Ringworm)
A fungal infection that causes red, itchy, and circular rashes on the skin, hair, or nails.
Thrush
A fungal infection causing white patches in the mouth, on the tongue, or in the genital area.
