part of the renal tubule (1 of 2 parts of nephrons) - lots of microvilli

Glomerulus

a knot of capillaries that makes up a part of nephrons

collecting duct

recieves urine from nephrons - runs through the medullary pyramids

Peritubular capillaries

low pressure capillaries adapted for absorption (as opposed to the glomerulus, specialized for filtration)

Arcurate vein

vein that takes blood from the kidney

Nephron

millions of tiny structures in kidneys responsible for forming urine

Ureter

transports urine from kidneys to bladder

bladder

stores urine

urethra

takes urine from bladder to outside the body

nitrogenous wastes and unneeded substances

Bowman’s capsule

the closed end of the renal tubule that surrounds the glomerulus - enlarged and cup-shaped

Tissue of bladder

wall contains 3 layers of smooth muscle (detrusor muscle)

mucosa is made of transitional epithelium
