Step 1
Assemble equipment (Basin of warm water, periwash, washcloths, towels, pericream, incontinent brief, toilet tissue, bath blankets, disposable gloves, bed protector, and linen bag)
Step 2
Preform KIPWS
Step 3
Fill basin half full of warm water; place on covered overbed table
Step 4
Position bed to a comfortable working height and lock wheels
Step 5
Apply Gloves
Step 6 *
Fanfold top linens down and cover resident with a bath blanket or towel to maintain privacy
Step 7
Ensure the bed is flat and place the bed protector under resident if needed
Step 8
Assist the resident to bend their knees and place feet on the mattress if possible; otherwise, spread legs
Step 9
Draw the bath blanket up to expose the genitalia
Step 10
Observe for drainage, bleeding, irritation, or pain
Step 11 *
*Wet Washcloths in water, wring out, and apply periwash
Procedure note: Use different section of washcloth for each wipe. Do not put washcloths back in basin of water. Change washcloths as needed putting used cloths in plastic bags. Never place used washcloths on bed or overbed table.

Gently spread the labia and hold this position
Step 13 *
*Wash down the center of the genitalia over the meatus and perineum towards the anus in one smooth stroke
Step 14
Wash the inner and outer labia using downward strokes, alternating side to side moving outwar with each stroke to the thigh creases, wash over the lower abdomen/mons pubis
Step 15
using clean washcloths, rinse and pat dry in the same order as washed
Step 16
Cover resident with bath blanket; turn resident with back towards you; exposing only the buttocks. If feces is present; remove with toilet tissue; change gloves
Step 17 *
*Wash the buttocks, perineum, and anal areas with a soapy washcloth; wash from front to back away from the vagina
Step 18
Using clean washcloths, rinse and pat dry in the same order as washed
Step 19
Change gloves, wash hands to apply pericream. If the pericream is being used to treat a wound-ask a nurse to apply it
Step 20
Change gloves and wash hands
Step 21
Apply incontient brief if used. Remove or replace the bed protector
Step 22
Remove gloves wash hands
Step 23
Assist resident to a comfortable position; adjust bed linens and clothing
Step 24
Clean the equipment and return to storage. Dispose of waste in plastic bag. Take dirty linen to proper area
